Hot Pursuit 2 Essentials Pack

HOT PURSUIT 2 ESSENTIALS

This mod aims to provide imrpoved experience for newer hardware and Windows versions for Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2, while staying as true to vanilla as possible.

FEATURES

  • Improved reflections and particle LOD
  • HD Fonts
  • Widescreen Fix
  • Improved online support via OpenSpy
  • v242 patch
  • D3D11 support
  • XInput controller, PlayStation Dualshock 4 and Dualsense support. Now you can manipulate menus with your controller!
  • Restored D3D/EAX audio

INSTALLATION

MAKE BACKUPS!
Most of the mods are drag and drop, replacing existing files, with exceptions:
  • 3D Audio needs OpenAL to be installed: Download here (choose Windows Installer version). After that, you can drag files included in the mod into the game's folder and set Audio Mode to D3D/EAX in Options - Customize Audio in Main Menu (that option does not exist during races)
  • After installing improved LOD mod, your graphics options have to be set to maximum in the game options
  • You don't need to copy the v242 patch itself to game's folder, but it requires the game to be pre-installed with EA's installer, otherwise the game will not be detected by the patcher
  • Widescreen fix and online patch require v242 NoCD exe to run
  • HD Fonts require Widescreen fix
  • To be able to host games online via OpenSpy, you need to forward these ports on your router and have your IP addess be not behind Carrier Grade NAT (CGNAT). You don't need to open ports to be able to connect to servers
  • After dragging Controller Support files into game's folder, use HP2.exe for XInput controllers, HP2 PS.exe for PlayStation Dualshock 4 and Dualsense to run the game now

KNOWN ISSUES

  • Even though 3D Audio is selected in Options menu, you need to change Audio Mode options back and forth to re-enable it every time you start the game
  • The way menu manipulation with controllers work, HP2.exe and HP2 PS.exe are pre-compiled AutoHotKey v2 scripts to map controller inputs to Keyboard inputs, but it seems to not always work depending on your Hardware and Windows configuration. When they do work, they introduce slight issues when remapping controls: keyboard keys getting mapped instead of controller inputs. I've provided the source code and icon of those scripts in "Sources" folder, if you want to read into how those scripts work, run them directly or if you want to compile those scripts yourself. You'll need AutoHotKey v2
  • Widescreen fix introduces issues with cutscenes, HP2.exe and HP2 PS.exe automatically skip them by using --nofrustration command line option
  • Due to DS4 and DualSense having their triggers being detected not only as triggers, but also buttons, it is advised NOT to remap them to anything else. They are mapped to brake and gas by default, but if you map them to something else using in-game menus, they are detected as buttons, meaning any slight press detects them immediately as 100% press. They also do not "unmap" from brake and gas, because game detects them as 2 different inputs (trigger trigger and trigger button). If you want to remap triggers to other functions, edit Controllers/defaults.ini file with a text editor and after you're done, set your controls to default in game and save your game profile
  • Most of old controllers that were included in Controllers/definitions.ini and Controllers/defaults.ini have been removed due to new controller definitions and the game potentially having troubles reading bigger .ini files. If you have one of those old controllers, add it back by using your backup and a text editor
  • If you want to use manual gearbox, be sure to set it USING YOUR MOUSE. Otherwise, it might not work
  • If your game volume is set too low using in-game menus, sound effects may disappear
