NFSMW Sound Adjustment




 

This is a little mod that updates some of the sounds in NFS Most Wanted, either fixing bugs or inappropriate/unfitting samples. The mod includes several custom ABKs, along with some sounds backported from newer titles. It's in the same spirit as my Carbon sound mod. I have also added a few sounds that remain unused but can be used with respective car mods.

NOTE: This mod is designed around and is intended to be used with Palmont Imports, but it can be used standalone on a fresh installation (see warning at the bottom). It can also be used as a base for other car mods that are maybe lacking a suitable sound in base MW05, but suitable samples exist in newer Black Box titles.

Sounds that this mod alters:
  • Aston Martin DB9 (stock and tuned) - I have no clue what the vanilla stock DB9 sound is but it sounds very weird. That's been replaced with the stock DB9 sound from Carbon. Tuned is the DB9 sound from PS/UC. Includes the associated ABK from Carbon (car_86).
  • Cadillac CTS - Now uses V6 sounds instead of inline 4 sounds. inf_g35 for stock, nis_350z_a for Race/Pro and nis_350z_b for Super Pro/Ultimate.
  • Chevrolet Corvette C6 - Stock is unchanged, while tuned is the Corvette C5 sound from Carbon (incl. a backport of its associated ABK, car_82). Also changed its induction sound.
  • Chevrolet Corvette C6.R - Backport of the unused Ultima sound from PS/UC/World. Added transmission whine. Also applies to police Federal Cruiser (Challenge Series).
  • Fiat Punto - Uses a much more subdued sound as it only revs to around 6500RPM even when maxed out. Despite this, Black Box gave it the highest-revving S2000 sound (Church).
  • Lamborghini Gallardo - Stock is unchanged, while tuned uses the Sesto Elemento sound from HP2010.
  • Lamborghini Murcielago - Stock uses the Murcielago SV sound from NFS The Run, while tuned is the Murcielago SV sound from HP2010. Both use a backport of the custom Murcielago bank I made for Carbon using samples from NFS Shift.
  • Lexus IS300 - Uses toy_supra_b from PS/UC/World for stock, nis_300zx for Race/Pro engine and toy_supra_a from PS/UC/World for Super Pro/Ultimate engine.
  • Mazda RX-7 - Added another engine upgrade so now this car has 3 sounds. Stock is unchanged. Race/Pro is maz_rx7_b from PS/UC/World, while Super Pro/Ultimate is the upgraded RX-7 sound from Carbon (incl. a backport of its associated ABK, car_90).
  • Mazda RX-8 - Tuned no longer uses Ferrari 360 samples--new sound taken from HP2010.
  • Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG - Tuned now uses mer_sl65_b from Undercover, revlimited to 7093 RPM, has more of a turbo-V12 sound now instead of a weird V8.
  • Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren - Added a Super Pro engine upgrade to give this car a stock and tuned sound. Stock is the vanilla SLR sound, while tuned is mer_slr_b from PS/UC/World (they sound very similar).
  • Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII - Backported the Evo 8 sound from Carbon (incl. its associated ABK, car_83). Also backported the Evo 9 sound from PS/UC/World. Stock is the Evo 9 sound, while tuned is the Evo 8 sound.
  • Police Civic Cruiser (Challenge Series) - Backported chry_srt8 and its associated ABK from Carbon (car_85).
  • Police Rhino SUV (Challenge Series) - Uses por_cayenne now.
  • Pontiac GTO - Stock is now a slightly lower-RPM variant of the stock Corvette C6 sound, while tuned is a slightly lower-RPM variant of the Corvette C5 sound (6100-ish RPM rather than 6500-ish). Tuned sound applies to police State Cruiser (Challenge Series).
  • Porsche Cayman S - Stock is the Porsche 911 RSR sound while tuned is the updated version of that sound from HP2010 (I may revert this change at some point).
  • speedtest (that wicked fast M3 GTR Street) - Same as the M3 GTR ALMS/Hero car (before, it was like the stock Mustang).
  • Toyota Supra SZ-R - Uses toy_supra_b from PS/UC/World for stock, inf_g35 for Race/Pro engine and toy_supra_a from PS/UC/World for Super Pro/Ultimate engine.
  • Traffic Minivan - Uses inf_g35 since the early-2000s Chrysler Town & Country it's very loosely based on most commonly uses a V6, rather than a V8 like the vanilla Hummer sound would suggest.
  • Traffic Pickup Truck - Uses for_bronco now.
  • Vauxhall Monaro VXR - Same deal as the Pontiac GTO. Also changed its tuned induction sound to match the GTO.

Palmont Imports-specific adjustments:
  • Chevrolet Camaro Concept - Backported the associated ABKs for the corvette_c5 sound.
  • Chrysler 300C SRT8 - Backported the associated ABKs for the chry_srt8 sound.
  • Dodge Challenger Concept - corvette_c5 sound.
  • Jaguar XK - Backported the associated ABKs for the jag_xk sound (car_87).
  • Koenigsegg CCX - Uses some V8 sound from HP2010 that was used for the GT500 exhaust and Agera engine. Same deal as my mod for Carbon.
  • Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 - Uses the Murcielago SV sound from NFS The Run along with the custom Murcielago bank.
  • Lotus Europa S - Uses Cavalier sounds (like the Cobalt) since the Europa uses a GM-derived inline 4 that doesn't rev as high as the Toyota-derived one in the Elise.
  • Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T - Backported mit_eclipse_c from NFS World and assigned it the Evo 8 ABK. Race/Pro engine is the Evo 9 sound, while Super Pro/Ultimate is the Evo 8 sound.
  • Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX - Same deal as the Evo 8.
  • Pagani Zonda F - uses the Jansen X12 sound from Burnout Paradise (limited to 7000 RPM) and also includes a backport of the custom bank I made for this car in NFS Carbon.

This mod also includes a couple of unused sounds that I felt like backporting. They can be assigned to an appropriate mod.
  • Lexus LFA - Backported from NFS World.
  • Lamborghini Diablo - Backported from HP2010, serves as an alternative to the Diablo sound that's already present in the game files.

Installation instructions are in the readme.

*WARNING: If you install Palmont Imports AFTER this mod, you must reinstall this one and select the appropriate option in VLTEd or else some changes could be undone.

Preview: I don't have one yet and probably won't for a long time. If you've played Carbon with my sound mod, a lot of that is reflected here. When I am less burnt out of making sound mods for NFS games, I may finish backporting the remaining sounds from Carbon (especially the older muscle cars) and make a proper preview.
